Improve your short game

This ia a short article on improving your short game.

Now that you have worked on your drive to the point that you are satisfied it is not time to make preparation for the next shot.

While a good solid straight drive is very important, it is often overshadowed by the importance of your second shot that is meant to reach the green.

This is when your short game comes into play.

If you struggle from this point on, you are going to watch your birdie chances slip away very quickly.

Picking Your Spot

In order for you to have a good chance at sinking your putt, you are going to need to have a good approach to the green. This perhaps the most important shot for each hole ensuring you get quality placement on the green is what is going to determine success. You are going to want to know what the green is all about before you make this next shot. Knowing the break goes front to back, left to right, and the speed of the green will all be important factors.

Once you can determine what the green is all about, it is then time to pick your club. This is another instance that you need to pay close attention to the small details. If the ball is in the rough, you may have to apply more force to get the ball back in play. If the ball is on the fairway yet below the green, you may find you will have to go up a club to compensate.

Your Approach

Finding the best way to the green can be trying to say the least. With experience and some practice the right shot will come. It is very important that you know how much power you need for a shot that is below the green versus a shot above the green. If the ball is above the green and you do not make the proper adjustment by going down in clubs, you are more likely to overshoot or come in hot on the green.

Should you overshoot or come in hot you are going to end up with an extra stroke. You could easily face a shot from a hazard that will put your chances at paring the hole slim. With hazards such as green side bunkers and ponds, the potential for trouble is great.

Don’t Overextend

If you feel for whatever reason that you are simply not going to make a quality second shot to the green, it is always the safe bet to shoot to come up short of the green. This may add a stroke on your hole, yet it will allow you the chance to pat out rather than risk a costly bogey.

This is the safest and most sensible way you can play the ball. Being a hotshot will get you nowhere when you are trying to fish it out of a pond. Smart short game will easily better your scorecard opposed to sloppy overzealous golfing. Take your time and pick your spot in the end you will have an easy trip to the cup.
