The Right Golf Balls Improve Your Game

If you were to ask any pro golfer what they would define as their most important piece of equipment, the most common answer would be their golf balls.

These balls have come a long way from their initial concept of packed feathers in horse hide.

Today these balls are precise and well designed so much so that they can basically be a major factor in a score card.

Finding the golf ball that is right for you is going to be a process of elimination.

With different aspects to consider such as compression, dimple count, and core structure, the balls of today are definitely not what they were 25 years ago.

Wound To Solid Core

There are basically two different variants of golf balls that can be found today. One is the wound ball and the other is the two piece ball. The wound ball is what the professional golfers generally use and it consists of three components. The core is usually a hard piece of rubber or a liquid core that is tightly wrapped in a rubber like tread. Once the thread is finished the wind, a hard plastic shell is laid over top. This type of ball is designed for maximum velocity, yet has a relatively short lifespan.

Today’s casual golfer is more apt to use golf balls that are of the two piece variety. These balls usually have a solid core of rubber and are layered with a hard outer plastic shell. These balls while not as efficient as the wound balls do offer a longer lifespan and are cheaper to purchase.

The Cost Of Balls

If you have ever watched the professional golfers on the PGA Tour, then you should by now have some idea what the pros are using. Many of the golfers are actually in endorsement contracts with specific ball manufacturers, so they use that company’s ball during play. Each and every one of those balls that are used on the tour can in fact be purchased and used by you on a public course.

It is important to note however, that if you are merely starting out it may be best to start with a less expensive ball. This will keep things on the cheap side, as you will more than likely be going through a couple balls a week. Some of the big name golf balls today can run in excess of $60 per dozen balls. A cheaper yet perfectly fine dozen balls can be had for anywhere between $6 and $20.

Finding The Deals

If you are simply not willing to shell out the big bucks for some of the better brand golf balls on the market, then you might want to look into some other options. You can find great deals on products such as x-outs and logo overlays. These balls are sold cheaper than their perfect counterparts generally due to simple cosmetic defects.

These balls are just fine for play. They merely do not look as appealing as the balls you would pay $60 a dozen for. This will allow for the top flight equipment at a discount price.
